Karma Catches Up To Florida Man Who Abuses COVID Relief Fund!

A man in Miami, Florida was caught allegedly abusing a government-issued coronavirus relief fund for small businesses when he was involved in a hit-and-run in his Lamborghini, which he'd reportedly spent the money on instead.

David T. Hines apparently purchased the blue Lamborghini Huracan Evo for US$318,497 using part of the US$4 million Small Business Administration (SBA) loan he received to cover expenses run up by his four companies during the pandemic, according to the Miami Herald.

The SBA is meant to protect employees' jobs and cover other legitimate costs entrepreneurs might face like commercial rent; needless to say, an Italian supercar doesn't meet the criteria.

However, karma is truly a, um, snitch, and it apparently decided for his selfish purchase, Hines would be involved in a hit-and-run accident in the vehicle July 11 — in fact, that was how his scheme was found out. Miami police impounded his car and prosecutors plan to seize it. Hines appeared in Miami federal court on fraud and other charges on July 27.

Hines was held overnight and granted a US$100,000 bond by Magistrate Judge John O'Sullivan. He has been instructed to stay at his mother's house with a GPS monitor. Hines is scheduled to be arraigned October 14.

This isn't Hines' first brush with the law, or with Lamborghini. In 2018, he reported his girlfriend had stolen another Lamborghini of his, but when the police found the car, Hines became uncooperative and both he and the girlfriend fled before eventually being found and arrested.
